Jane and Jay’s Sun Peaks elopement was truly so special to be a part of! When I first met them in 2019 they had recently moved to Sun Peaks from Toronto for a change in pace. How awesome! They had an amazing mountaintop wedding planned with all their family and friends, mostly travelling from a few provinces over. Of course all that changed when covid hit! They decided to still get married this summer but it would now be an intimate mountaintop elopement!
Their day started out with breakfast and getting ready in their own rooms. I started out in Jane’s room and when I arrived it was just her getting her hair and makeup done by Chelsea. There was something so calming and peaceful with not having the usual room full of people running around! She had a zoom call with her mom, but otherwise she got to focus on just her and her soon-to-be husband!
As I was heading over to Jay’s room, I found him in the hallway a bit frantic because his hair elastic broke and he didn’t have another one with him! Luckily I had a spare one in my bag! I never thought i’d have to lend something to the groom! Jay had their adorable pup, Jammie there to help him get ready (which made for some seriously adorable photos!).
Their first look was so cute! Jammie got so excited when he saw his mom walking over that Jay could barely keep him there! After their first look we headed up the chairlift for the ceremony. It was such a gorgeous setting and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. They wrote their own vows, but opted to say them to each other after the ceremony in a beautiful spot in the forest!
After photos, we headed back to their room where they had a zoom call planned with all their family and friends who couldn’t make it in person but still wanted to celebrate in such a special way! They popped a bottle of champagne and toasted with everyone on the call! They also had their first dance in their hotel room with everyone on the zoom call – cutest thing ever!!
Although it wasn’t the wedding they had originally planned, they still made the best of it and it came together so beautifully! Jane has said that not only was I the photographer, but I played the part of her Maid of Honour as well, which is so incredibly special! We shared laughs, excitement, and even a few tears together. Their wedding day truly has a special place in my heart, and i’m already looking forward to getting together with them for a beer!
